We splurged on a mid-range riad for our week long stay in Marrakech in January. This is the first time I approached booking accommodation without looking for the cheapest option as I've come to value where I stay more and more with each trip and feel it really affects your impression and experience of a place.
A riad is a traditional Moroccan townhouse that is built around an inner courtyard or garden which often contains a fountain.
These were the homes of the wealthy during the Saadian era. In modern times, many have been restored to their former glory as hotels or restaurants.
Nowadays the term riad tends to refer to the guest house style accommodations found in restored Moroccan riads.
This place was hidden in the narrow, winding streets of the Medina (old town). In particular, we loved having breakfast on the rooftop terrace or chilling out there with some Berber whiskey (mint tea) before bed.
